Beschreibung:

PETRUS de ABANO (1250-?1315). Conciliator differentiarum philosophorum et precipue medicorum . Venice: Leonardo Lauredano, 17 January 1504.
PETRUS de ABANO (1250-?1315). Conciliator differentiarum philosophorum et precipue medicorum . Venice: Leonardo Lauredano, 17 January 1504. 2° (282 x 201mm). Double column, woodcut illustrations and diagrams, historiated and ornamental woodcut initials. (Small repairs in lower margin of a few leaves, dampstain in lower margin of last c.85 leaves.) Remboitage in old vellum (lightly soiled and creased). Provenance : old manuscript annotations (in the margins, a few cropped). ONE OF ONLY TWO EDITIONS WITH A CELEBRATED ANATOMICAL WOODCUT. ‘A most striking feature of the present edition is the large anatomical woodcut representing two nude figures holding each other by the shoulders; at the abdomen the anatomy of the abdominal muscles is shown. This cut is copied from the 1496 edition, one of the earliest graphic incunabula of anatomy. Apparently only these two editions of the Conciliator contain the anatomical illustration, a copy of which occurs in Berengario’s Commentaria, 1521’ (Choulant-Frank). Adams A-8; Choulant-Frank, pp.141-142; Sander 5639; Durling and Wellcome only list later editions.
