Beschreibung:

Lot of 17. Most addressed to Genl. Henry Martyn Cist (Cincinnati), who apparently headed one of the veterans' committees of the Army of the Cumberland. Seven are from 1889, three from 1890 and two from 1891; the other five are pre-1889, and addressed to other generals. Most are regrets that they cannot attend the reunion. Many also contain service records, either of the sender or someone in their command. Apparently the original invitations went out with a statement requesting updates on the whereabouts of missing individuals. According to the letters, many had died. The notes are from: Silas M. Bailey (1836-1900); Absalom Baird (1824-1905); William J. Bolton (1833-1906); Jacob M. Campbell (1821-1888); Powell Clayton (1833-1914); Thomas J. Cram (1804-1883); William D. Dixon (1833-1916); William E. Doster (1837-1919); John F. Hartranft (1830-1889; Provost Marshal for the trial of the Lincoln Conspirators); Charles A. Heckman (1822-1896; POW, one of 51 officers placed under fire at Charleston); John W. Hofmann (1824-1902); John Q. Lane (1831-1903); Robert A. McCoy (1835-1893); Thomas F. McCoy (1819-1899); William M. Mintzer (1837-1916); Ario Pardee, Jr. (1839-1901); and Andrew J. Smith (1815-1897). Condition: With expected folds and light toning. Average or better condition for this type of letter.
