Paul Starrett Sample (American, 1896-1974) Dartmouth Hall in Winter Signed and dated "Paul Sample 45" l.r Watercolor on paper, 18 x 24 1/2 in. (45.7 x 62.3 cm), framed. Condition: Not examined out of frame. N.B. A "View of the principal Buildings of Dartmouth University" and a corresponding presentation certificate made out to college president John Wheelock from George Ticknor delineator and member of the Sophomore class, dated July 1803, accompany the lot. Both are collotypes and are presented in a common frame. John Wheelock served as President of Dartmouth College from 1779 to 1815. Provenance: Gift from the artist to the present owner's father; private Massachusetts collection by family descent.
