"Although Paul Schuitema rejected any form of 'charming' lettering in the 1930s, his early designs show some influence of fashionable Art Deco alphabets . . towards the end of his life, Schuitema went back to exploring letterforms in a rather playful way. His experiments resulted in this double alphabet issued as a poster in the 1960s" (Dutch Type p. 84).
