Sawyier probably executed the painting in Fleischmanns, New York, where he resided in his later years. The artist is believed to have painted the a bird's eye view of Frankfort with the Arsenal in peripheral from memory: "Nostalgia, rather than an interest in realism, led Sawyier to depict the old covered bridge in the background although it had been demolished about 23 years prior to the painting's execution." (Jones, Arthur F, 1992. p. 110) Condition: Relined.
