Paul Howard Manship (1885-1966), 'David', bronze, inscribed 'Roman Bronze Works N.Y.', 13 7/8" H. The present bronze dates from 1914 and can be considered unique. 'Three variations of the subject were made: the present model, the example illustrated in P. Vitry's monograph which is on an elaborate base, and a third, incomplete variation truncated at the knees and lacking the dog.' Provenance: The Collection of Ruth S. and David M. Heyman, sold by the Estate of David M. Heyman; purchased from Christie's, April 10, 1984.
