Beschreibung:

Paul Henry RHA RUA (1876-1958) Bogland, Connemara (1932-6) Oil on canvas, 29.5 x 34.5cm, (11.6 x 13.6'') Signed Provenance: The Dawson Gallery where purchased by present owner in 1969. Exhibited: 'Paul Henry Retrospective', Trinity College, Oct-Nov 1973; Ulster Museum, Belfast, Nov 1973-Jan 1974, Cat No.19; 'Paul & Grace Henry Retrospective', Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Nov-Dec 1991, Cat No. 59. Literature: Front Cover illustration of 'Paul & Grace Henry Retrospective' catalogue, Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery. A fine example of Henry's work from this late period of his career, the simplicity of the two-part division of the picture plane and the simple massing of the compositional elements-turf stacks, bogland and water-imbuing the image with vigour. The sense of stillness and timelessness, the characteristic moods of this composition, are typical of much of the artist's work. Bogland Connemara is numbered 814 in S. B. Kennedy's forthcoming catalogue of Paul Henry's oeuvre. S.B.
