PAUL COLIN (1892-1986) [RUSSIAN FILM FESTIVAL.] Gouache and watercolor maquette. Circa 1930s. 12 1/2x10 inches, 31 1/2x25 1/2 cm. Condition A / A-: tape along lower left edge; discoloration and minor tears at edges. Paper. A detailed maquette for an unrealized project promoting what was either a movie or a Russian film festival. Colin divides the image in half using a decorative tangle of rolls of celluloid film. On one side, the colorful onion domes of Russian churches, and on the other industrial outline and the silhouette of a battleship (perhaps an artistic nod to Potemkin).
