PAUL COLIN (1892-1986) LOTERIE NATIONALE / GRAND PRIX DE PARIS. 1936. 22 1/4x14 3/4 inches, 61 1/2x37 1/2 cm. Jules Simon, Paris. Condition A-: minor creases and restoration along vertical and horizontal folds. This poster was commissioned by the French Lottery for one of their many special events, the Grand Prix of Paris, a major occasion in the racing season in Longchamp. Predictably, Colin depicts the green turf and the galloping horses, but he adds the ingenious touch of representing the spectators as numbers. Curiously, two different versions of the finalized poster exist; printed by different printing houses, one features 5 racing horses and the other 6. Also, in each of the two versions (both different sizes) all of the numbers are different! Colin 177, Metiers Publicité 1937. This is the smaller format.
