Publisher: Date: October 23, 1846 Description: Printed passport, completed in manuscript, approximately 43x28 cm. (17x11"). Matted and framed with 2 other items, overall approximately65.5x107 cm. (25¾x42¼"). Passport from Reverand Eli Smith and his wife, signed at close by James Buchanan Stamped and signed on the rear by the U.S. Consulates for Constantinople and Syria & Palestine. Framed with a steel-engraved portrait of Buchanan and a later (1860) printed Proclamation of President Buchanan for a day of Humiliation, Fasting, and Prayer on January 4, 1861 (this is on the second leaf of a Proclamation for the same observance by Nathaniel Banks, Governor of Massachusetts but folded to be the visible page). Lot Amendments Condition: Creased; fine. Item number: 210334
