Folding table, black letter (title soiled, headline and a few shoulder notes just shaved, short tear in table, early repair E7-8 affecting a few letters). Late 19th-century leather by T.Aitken, panelled in blind and gilt, edges gilt (front joint starting, front hinge cracked and free endpaper detached, extremities rubbed). Provenance : Cornelius Paine 1871 (inscription and bookplate) -- J.H. Firminger (inscription). FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH of an anonymous manuscript life of Matthew Parker, taken from the Historiola Collegii Corporis Christi attributed to John Joscelyn under Parker's direction. This unauthorised translation, possibly by John Stubbs, adds shoulder notes and a critique of Parker's De Antiquitate Britannicae Ecclesiae . STC 19292a; ESTCS-114022.
