7 original shadow screens from the shadow play 'De Roemruchtige bedrijven van ridder Don Quixote de la Mancha' by Pieter van Gelder, 1926. With admission ticket and programme for the play at the Philips Ontspanningsgebouw, March 1931. Between 64 x 46 and 96 x 74 cm. Frayed on the edges, one scene with a few tears.
In 1926, the famous tale of Don Quixote was transformed into a shadow play by artist Pieter van Gelder. Using the 1925 text by the famous Charivarius (1870-1946), the Philips' Vereeniging performed the play in reprise in 1931. W.P. Landzaat (1886-1940), an army officer known for his sacrifice at the Battle of the Grebbeberg but also a skilled actor, recited the text for this edition of the play held in Eindhoven. (total 8)
