Lot details Attributed to Kawabata Shunsui (1882-1934), signed Shunsui with two seals Japan, Taisho period (1912-1926) Finely painted in ink and watercolors with a dramatic depiction of the young Taira no Atsumori on horseback fleeing into a river along with a second samurai on horseback, one ducking under a barrage of arrows. The river is executed with subtle brushwork and much attention has been given to the horses and armor, creating fine color contrasts. Signed to the lower right SHUNSUI with two seals. Shunsui was a commonly used go name, this screen is most likely by the Kyoto Nihonga style painter Kawabata Shunsui (1882-1934). With a black-lacquered frame and metal fittings.
