Svensk botanik. Utg. J. W. Palmstruch - C. Quensel - O. Swartz and others. I-XI + Register (all published, Register in facsimile copy). Stockholm - Uppsala (C. Delén, Palmblad & c.) 1803-43. Complete in 11 volumes. 8vo. 774 handcoloured engraved plates (all, overall only minor foxing to the plates, some offsetting; text sometimes with minor foxing, title to vol. XI in facsimile). Contemporary brown half leather, somewhat worn, gilt spines with red spine-labels, greenblueish edges, vol. XI newly bound in nearly the same stile as the others, speckled edges. (signed S. Wiklander). Some endpapers missing. Signature on inside of upper covers to vol. I-X J. J. Kallstenius. 11 volumes. Photo. Vol. I 2nd edition. Rare with the complete set, as part XI also is present complete. In May 1840 a fire destroyed most of the nondistributed fascicules of part XI. The planned fascicules 10-12 of part XI were never published. For a full collation see: Krok: Bibliotheca Botanica Suecana, page. 98-100. Compare also with Nissen, BBI: 2223. This magnificent work with hand-coloured botanical plates "was esteemed by contemporaries as an enterprise of national importance. Palmstruch's own illustrations, in the first six volumes, have been characterized as the best pictures of plants ever produced in Sweden, and make this one of the most beautiful of Swedish books." (Sten G. Lindberg) The text was written by the most distinguished botanists of the period: Conrad Quensel, Olof Swartz, G.J. Billberg, Göran Wahlenberg. (Sten G. Lindberg, Swedish Books 1280-1967, Nr. 55).
