Title-page with woodcut engraving, two engraved plates, woodcut in text. Modern paper wrappers. In the summer of 1732, the city of Palma de Mallorca rejoiced in the recapture by the Spanish fleet of the port of Oran in Algeria. Under Spanish rule since 1509, the city had been taken from Spain by the Ottomans in 1708. This repossession firmly cemented Spain's status as a dominant world power and also alleviated the constant raids on the island of Mallorca from marauding Turkish pirates. Given this reason for celebration, the inhabitants of Palma organized festivitites that included religious ceremonies, processions of triumphal chariots, and musical entertainment. The two engraved plates illustrate an elaborate float in the form of a fortress and an ornately decorated altar. Palau 70425.
