Beschreibung:

PALLAS, PETER SIMON Second Voyage de Pallas, ou Voyages Entrepis dans les Pays Meridionaux de l'Empire de Russie, pendant les années 1793 et 1794 . Paris: Guillaume & Deterville, 1811. With the atlas titled Voyages Entrepis dans les Gouvernemens Meridionaux de l'Empire de Russie... Paris: J.P. Jacob & Deterville, 1805. Four text volumes plus atlas. The text volumes uncut and largely unopened and in early (original?) pale green wrappers with manuscript titling to spines and binder's waste endpapers, each housed in a folding cloth case, the atlas retaining wrapper and later newsprint endpapers but now bound in modern green cloth. Text volumes 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches (21.5 x 14 cm); atlas 13 x 19 inches (33 x 49 cm). Text volumes with half-titles, 372, 382, 387, 376 pp.; atlas with 55 engraved plates and maps after G. Geissler. Corner of binding to atlas chewed not affecting interior, the plates with some edgewear, toning, short closed tears to extremities and a faint but large dampstain affecting plates at rear, the wrappers with some light edgewear, creases, small ink stains and possible restorations to joints and spines. Pallas undertook a second expedition to the Crimea and Southern Provinces of Russia in 1793-4. This is likely the first edition of the atlas which was issued in 1805 with two text volumes under this title. The text was expanded and issued with a second edition atlas in 1811, thus this is a mixed set with the preferable earlier plates. C
