Pair of Queen Anne Carved and Figured Walnut Compass-Seat Side Chairs Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaCirca 1750
Chairs and accompanying original seat frames respectively marked I and II. Inscribed with the accession number M23.1 and M23.2.
Height 40 3/4 in. by Width 20 in. by Depth 19 1/4in.; Seat Height 17 1/2 in.Condition reportThe chair marked I with corresponding original slip seat marked I, and accession # m23.2 on the proper left rear leg. There is a four inch by half inch patch to the front seat rail and the rear proper left foot has a two inch replaced heel. There is a minor 1/4 inch triangular patch to the proper left stile at junction with crest rail. The chair marked II with corresponding original slip seat marked II and accession #m23.1. There are two patches on each of the stiles. The proper left front foot is cracked and re-glued but appears to be original.
