Pair of Longton Hall or Vauxhall Porcelain Blue and White Mythological Candlestick Figures Circa 1756-58, unmarked, probably Vauxhall Each winged figure modeled kneeling before a flowering tree, raised on a rocaille-scroll molded base, Cupid taking aim with his bow and arrow at a flaming heart held in Psyche's right hand, a quiver and bow at her feet, the drapery, a few flowers, the arrow flights and the scroll foot enriched in mazarine blue. Height 7 1/2 inches, width 5 3/8 inches. Provenance: Dr. Charles A. Hepburn Collection. Christie's, London, 13 November 1972, . Literature: R.J. Charleston, English Porcelain, pl. 26A. At the time of cataloguing no other examples of these candlestick figures could be found. Though no examples of this model could be located, the applied flowers, modelling and the inky blue coloration on the present pair relate to characteristics found on those being reattributed to Vauxhall.
