[Painting - Asia] PETRUCCI, Raphaël La philosophie de la nature dans l'art d'Extrême-Orient. Illustré d'après les originaux des maîtres du paysage des VIIIe au XVIIe siècles de quatre gravures sur bois de K. Egawa et S. Izumi. Tirées en couleurs par T. Tamura et T. Wada. Neuf héliotypies et une planche double en photogravure. Exécutées à Tokyo par les soins de The Kokka Publishing Co. Paris, Renouard (by P. Hérissey for H. Laurens, Dec. Folio: [4]-iv-160-[pp.; pl. Publ. half brown morocco, vellum covered boards, front cover and flat spine gilt titled, gilt top-edge, wr. pres. Slipcase. First edition illustrated with tipped-in plates (4 in colour, one double-page), protected with captioned tissue guards. The orientalist Petrucci (1872-1917)'s work focuses on Chinese and Japanese paintings in the light of Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism and Shinto; and he explains the connection between Japanese and Chinese artists and nature. Issued to numbered copies (n. 9). Prov. Ex dono from Petrucci to Charles Lefébure (1862-1943), engineer and collaborator of Ernest Solvay (ms. note). - Charles Lefébure (bookpl. by L. Moreels).
