Large 4to (301 x 251mm.), half-title, title with colour photographic portrait of Picasso to verso, dedication leaf WITH PENCIL INSCRIPTION BY PICASSO ("Simone de Ferranti | Picasso | le 16.1.69") ABOVE A CHARMING PENCIL SKETCH OF A CAVALIER, in-text colour photographs of Picasso at start of volume, numerous colour photographic reproductions of Picasso's paintings mounted on text leaves, further monochrome photographic reproductions of Picasso's paintings at end of volume, original dust-jacket, some colour photographic reproductions starting to come loose from mounts, dust-jacket with some creasing and closed tears and small tape repair at foot of spine
This volume contains reproductions of paintings from Picasso's private collection of his own works. The American photographer David Douglas Duncan (1916-2018), known for his dramatic combat photographs, struck up a friendship with Picasso in Cannes in 1956. The present work is the result of more than six months spent at the artist's home, during which time Duncan photographed more than 500 works in Picasso's collection.
PROVENANCE:Inscribed by Picasso to Simone de Ferranti, wife of British businessman and Conservative Party politician Basil de Ferranti (1930-1988).
