P[HILIPS], K[atherine] (1631-1664). Poems by the incomparable Mrs. K.P. . London: J.G. for Rich. Marriott, 1664. 8°, woodcut title device of a wreath, with imprimatur and final errata leaf (title slightly thumb-soiled, some spotting, without blank Q8), contemporary panelled calf (rebacked). Provenance : Hugh Flesher; John Flesher (signatures on A8v, the latter dated 1790). FIRST EDITION, published without the author's consent. Grolier records that this "caused her so much annoyance that Marriott, the publisher, expressed his regret and promised in an advertisement in the London Intelligencer , January 18, 1664, to stop the sale of the book." The second [first authorised] edition followed in folio in 1667. Grolier Wither to Prior 668; Wing P2032; cf. Hayward 116.
