Provenance: Markree Castle, Ireland (shelf-label c.1913). Fifth edition of Ovid's Fasti with commentary by the Italian humanist Paolo Marso. The poem, reprinted from Venice 1485 edition, is an extensive treatment on the Roman calendar. Each book, of which only six are extant, treats one month, beginning with January, and includes astronomical notes and religious festivals, their rites and mythological explanations.
