The Master Word in Medicine. Baltimore: Johns Hopkins, 1904. 8vo (236 x 146 mm). Offprint from The Johns Hopkins Hospital Bulletin, Vol XV, No 154, January, 1904. Publisher's printed wrappers. Provenance: William Osler (presentation inscription); A.R.L. (another inscription, in the hand of:) Leonard L. Mackall (dated Christmas 1905). ASSOCIATION COPY INSCRIBED BY OSLER, and subsequently inscribed by "Leonard L. Mackall / from A.R.L. / Christmas 1905." Mackall graduated from Johns Hopkins in 1900, and would become Osler's close friend, functioning as the "anonymous fourth editor" of the Bibliotheca Osleriana. See Osler Library Newsletter No. 30 (February 1979). Osler's address was ""An appeal to the practicing members of his profession to remember that education is a life-long business" (Cushing 1, p 602). Golden & Roland 1173.
