Hand-coloured engraved title and portrait of Ortelius, 74 double-page engraved maps all with contemporary hand-colouring, mounted on guards. (Title irregularly cut down and mounted, a number of leaves with minor marginal repaired tears, numbering of maps erased, some light browning and soiling.) Contemporary half calf (rebacked and recornered, preserving original spine, new endpapers). The scarce German edition of Ortelius's Theatrum orbis terrarum , THE MAPS ALL COLOURED BY A CONTEMPORARY HAND .
