“The first printed map to be devoted to the Pacific Ocean, the discovery of which is remembered by the depiction, with legend, of Ferdinand Magellan's ship the Victoria ... one of Ortelius's most desirable maps” (Burden). The Gulf of California is here depicted in a new form, and the Rio Grande is introduced on a printed map for the first time. Italian text on the verso, following the first edition in Latin of 1590.
