Near contemporary vellum with red morocco label, blue sprinkled edges (recased with new endpapers, one board edge worn, tiny split in spine). Earliest edition of the Epitome of Ortelius to appear in Italy. The charming maps, copied from the first Galle editions of the Epitome , are printed on the upper part of the recto pages, with text on the lower part and on verso. ‘The main difference from the originals is that the names of the regions were engraved at the bottom, outside the frame.’ Koeman III Ort 69; Van der Krogt 33A:01; Sabin 57702 (date misprinted 1589).
