Beschreibung:

Ketubah, written in Jerusalemite Rashi script in a colorful frame with floral ornamentations, recording the marriage of Rabbi Binyamin (Beinush), son of Rabbi Shmuel Salant, Rabbi of Jerusalem, with Chana Sara, daughter of the late Rabbi Yosef Yuzel. Jerusalem, 1853. Signed by the groom (in the same Rashi script of the Ketubah itself), and the witnesses Rabbi “Yitzchak Shatz” and Rabbi “Yosef Yoel son of R’ Eliyahu Rivlin”. On the leaf is a shtar of “tosefet nedunya” (“additional dowry”) and “tosefet Ketubah”, from 1855, signed by the witnesses Rabbi Avraham son of Rabbi Uri Shabtai and Rabbi Yosef son of Rabbi Avraham Binyamin [Rivlin]. Rabbi Binyamin Beinush Salant (1838-1899), was the son of Rabbi Shmuel of Salant, Rabbi of Jerusalem, and grandson of Rabbi Yosef Zundel of Salant. Born in Lithuania, at the age of three he immigrated with his mother to Jerusalem, after his father was appointed Rabbi and Torah authority of the Ashkenazi community of Jerusalem. He wed the daughter of Rabbi Yuzel Leon, an outstanding Torah scholar who delivered Torah discourses in the Menachem Zion Beit Midrash. Together with his uncle Rabbi Leib Salant (son of Rabbi Yosef Zundel) he dealt in the sale of etrogim “meyuchasim” grown in Eretz Israel and their export. He was one of the key public activists in constructing new neighborhoods in Jerusalem and was one of the first seven settlers in the Nachlat Shiva neighborhood. Approximately 35X26.5 cm. Round cutting at the top of the leaf following the shape of the decoration. High-quality paper, good-fair condition, wear and folding creases. On the reverse side of the leaf is the inscription “The Ketubahh of the woman Chana Sara with R’ Binyamin Beinush”.
