With the ongoing Vietnam War, Chicago included an album poster featuring the band members decked in period uniforms of American soldiers-making a statement along with the American flag album cover. The original artwork was designed by John Berg As an art director (and later creative director and vice president) of Columbia/CBS Records from 1961 until 1985, Berg oversaw a golden age of record cover design. While there, he was responsible for developing the overall design for some of music's biggest talents including, Bob Dylan Bruce Springsteen, Simon and Garfunkel, Chicago, Bessie Smith, Blood, Sweat & Tears and more. He was nominated for 29 Grammys and won four of them. The final Chicago III album cover artwork was based off of this original artwork done by John Berg It was manipulated graphically to get this effect and to fit on a square album cover.
