(14½x11¾"), plus decorative borders. Second Edition. Classic pre-Gold Rush map; one of a series of 14 significant and scarce maps depicting the rapidly changing West. This is the second edition, nearly identical to the first, originally published one year earlier. The area labeled Upper or New California includes today's California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and parts of New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. The large territory's northern boundary is labeled "Boundary of 1846," which has Oregon City as the capital. California's capital is still Monterey and Sutter's Miller is still Nueva Helvetia.
