This beautiful painting is closely related to some important works by Orazio Gentileschi one of the protagonists of the Roman Caravaggesque movement during the first two decades of the 17th century. The well-balanced composition, the refined chromatic palette, the delicate expressions and gestures of the two figures are clearly inspired in particular by his „Virgin and Child“ held in the Fogg Museum of Cambridge (Mass.) and by the "Mystic vision of S. Francesca Romana" of the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche in Urbino.
