[Oratorians] HABERT, Germain La vie du cardinal de Bérulle, instituteur et premier Supérieur général de la Congrégation de l'Oratoire de Jésus-Christ nostre Seigneur. Paris, Wid. J. Camusat and P. Le Petit, 4to: front.-[14]-907-[1 bl.]-pp. (occ. soiling and foxing, sl. damp stain to lower margin of quires EEee-FFff and sl. damp stain in the text to last ff.). Contemp. calf, double gilt ruled covers, gilt orn. spine with raised bands, brown spr. edges (sl. rubbed and scratched, sm. stains, joints split, head & tail missing). First edition of the biography of Cardinal Pierre de Bérulle (1575-1629), founder in of the French school of Spirituality. Among his disciples were Sts Vincent de Paul and Francis of Sales. He was one of the most important mystics of 17th century in France. Illustrated with a frontispiece. Prov. Ex dono from "Mme Coulon" to the novitiate's library of the "maison des sacrés coeurs" (ms. note on front flyleaf dated 1852). - "Ce livre est permis pour lusage de seur [sic] marie gyry" (note on lower pastedown). - Libr. of "Maisons des Sacrés Coeurs" (stamp on title).
