In Greek. 439, [1] pp. A-Z8, AA-DD8, EE4. Woodcut Aldus dolphin device on EE4v. (folio) 29.5x19 cm (11¾x7½"), later half calf & boards. The second part of the edito priceps of Plato's works, printed in the original Greek for the first time, edited by A.P. Manutius and M. Musurus, printed at the Aldine Press in Venice. A highly important edition of the cornerstone work of Western philosophy, this volume contains the text of Republic, Timaeus, Critias, Laws, and Epistles. Quite rare. The present copy with early scholarly ink marginalia in Greek throughout. Taped to the front free endpaper is a letter, in French, dated 1877, presenting the book. Lot Amendments Condition: Rubbing and wear to covers, oval space on front cover where a medallion was apparently removed; some light foxing within, light mostly marginal dampstaining to earlier and latter leaves, ½x2¼" piece cut from lower margin of first leaf; very good or better, an attractive copy.
