Now regarded as one of the classics of the 1970s, the Honda 400 Four first appeared in 1974. Described as ‘the poor boy’s musclebike’, its combination of a four-cylinder, overhead-camshaft engine in a 250-sized package endowed it a performance better than many 500s. With a stylish four-into-one exhaust, six gears and rear-set footrests, it was every boy-racer’s dream and a huge commercial success. This Honda CB400F was owned by racing driver David Leslie until his tragic death in an air crash on 30th March this year. Scottish karting champion before he moved to cars, Leslie drove in Formula Ford, Formula 3 and the World Sportscar Championship, but is best remembered as one of the top drivers in the British Touring Car Championship throughout the 1990s. The Honda was bought new by Leslie’s father-in-law, who covered around 600 miles on it before consigning the machine to the back of the garage, where it sat until he gave it to David Leslie in 2001. Because of his racing commitments, David had little time to enjoy the little Honda (he also rode a CBR600 on the road) which was subsequently restored by his father. ‘TGO 154R’ has covered only a handful of miles since completion in 2006 and is presented in ‘A1’ condition throughout. ‘On the button’ and said to run beautifully, the machine is offered with MoT to July 2009 and Swansea V5 document. A rare opportunity to acquire low mileage example of one of the most collectible Japanese classics of the 1970s, restored to original condition.
