Purchased new from George Clarke (Motors) Ltd, of Brixton Hill, this Panther ‘combo’ comes with its original logbook and some fascinating correspondence between the factory and its (since deceased) owner revealing that ‘CLD 744B’ is the second Panther combination that he owned and had been an Earls Court Show model. The accompanying bill of sale records that the machine was supplied with a Garrard sidecar chassis and Watsonian Avon ‘chair’, although these may have been transferred from the preceding Panther outfit, which was traded in. The total cost was £374 10s. ‘CLD 744B’ has not been used for some time (the most recent of the four expired tax discs on file is dated May 1973) and its mechanical condition is not known; however, the engine does turn over, with good compression, and all the gears engage. Offered for restoration and sold strictly as viewed, this classic motorcycle combination is offered with the aforementioned documentation; a quantity of insurance certificates dating from 1965 to 1987; assorted Panther-related literature; various Watsonian range brochures, parts lists and set-up instructions; Panther maintenance manual; and a new-old-stock Wal Phillips fuel injector, boxed and with instructions.
