Olivier Mosset (Bern 1944) Pool (1988) Acrylics on canvas, 213.5 x 213.5 cm Provenance: - John Gibson Gallery, New York City (1989) - Private collection, the Netherlands N.B.: Together with Daniel Buren (1938), Michel Parmentier (1938) and Niele Toroni (1937), Olivier Mosset formed the minimalistic artist collective BMPT in Paris in the sixties. The group's name is an acronym of their last names and hereby also implied that in times they have produced each other's work. They rejected the artist's signature as ground for the work's value. However, Mosset's name and work have now become highly valuable to museums and collectors worldwide. Mosset is known for giving his art a neutrality and autonomy with great prowess, using geometrical and repetitive patterns.
