knockdown-type, with poplar secondary wood. With 2 diamond-paneled doors over 2 diamond-paneled drawers with mushroom pulls, a cove-moulded cornice, and resting on square bracket feet. Interior has shelf, fixed row of hooks, and 2 swivel hook racks. Upper case has raised-panel ends and the lower case has solid ends. Retains its original carved hooks, lift-off hinges, and its original varnish finish; 86" high x 44.5" wide x 22.5" deep. Oldenburg, Indiana was established in 1837 by European immigrants, many of whom were from the Alsace-Lorraine Region of Germany/France. The furniture exhibits a style similar to that of other Midwestern Germanic settlements, such as Zoar, Ohio, often utilizing diamond panels and hand-wrought brass or iron hardware. Provenance:From the Estate of John Auraden of Hamilton & Fairhaven, Ohio. Condition:Pulls in left drawer may be period replacements, finish worn on drawers and left side of cornice, VG.
