Estimate

Price realised:

Beschreibung:

cherry and poplar with the typical Oldenburg raised triple-panel front, but with an odd twist: instead of a full sized third panel, this piece has a much smaller panel on right side underneath an overlapping drawer with the lock set in sideways. Case has paneled sides, molded lid, and rests on turned legs. Interior with lidded till above the drawer. Retains its original, alligatored, yellow, grain-painted finish; 28" high x 42.25" wide x 20.75" deep. Oldenburg, Indiana was established in 1837 by European immigrants, many of whom were from the Alsace-Lorraine Region of Germany/France. The furniture exhibits a style similar to that of other Midwestern Germanic settlements, such as Zoar, Ohio, often utilizing diamond panels and hand-wrought brass or iron hardware. Provenance:From the Estate of John Auraden of Hamilton & Fairhaven, Ohio. Condition:Paint approx. 95+%, some blue and white paint splatters and mushroom knob on drawer likely old replacement, some losses to feet; VG.
