Very scarce, early American toy book with 8 "magical pictures". No. 4 in the Magic Mother Goose series. The plates are signed "W.L.S.". This flip series was designed by Donaldson Brothers, who applied for the patent. This copy with related article and notes laid in. Lot Amendments Condition: Backstrip taped over, wrapper edges worn; two Christmas gift inscriptions (one dated 1879, that lined through and dated 1883); repair at gutter rather clumsy with first letters shaved on about 4 plates, scattered light stains, lower corners folded over, final plate with larger marginal chip (touching border on text); still, in good or better condition, and a scarce ephemeral item; worthy of repair.
