Ads show various golf equipment, including balls, clothing, clubs, etc. (4to) 12¼x9¼, original saddle stitched duo-tone pictorial wrappers (stamped in brown and green). First appearance. The rare original and official program book for the 1928 U.S. National Amateur Golf Championship, held at the Brae Burn Country Club, West Newton, Massachusetts. Bobby Jones won this event, defeating J.W. Brown in the first round, Ray Gorton in the second, John B. Beck in third, Phillips Finlay in the semifinal and T. Philip Perkins in the final. “From 1923 to 1930 Bobby Jones captured an amazing 62 percent of the national championships he entered, winning 13 of 21 tournaments. He won five of eight U.S. Amateur Championships, and finished second in another. He won one of the two British Amateurs he played in. In eleven of the last twelve open championships he entered, he finished no worse than second, winning seven times. In 1926, Jones became the first player ever to capture the "Double," winning the U.S. and British Open Championships in the same year. In 1930, he accomplished the Grand Slam, winning the British Amateur, British Open, U.S. Open, and U.S. Amateur all in the same year” see bobbyjones.com. Douglas and Herbert H. Ramsay were the USGA Vice-Presidents; Bobby Jones (representing Atlanta Athletic Club) and Roger D. Lapham (of San Francisco Golf Club), among others, were part of the USGA Executive Committee at the time. Lot Amendments Condition: Glue residues to rear cover and last leaf (appear to be water-soluble), small rubs (with slight paper loss) and "13" in date boxed in ink to front cover lower half; lacks pp. 31-34, occasional light corner creases, finger-soiling to pp. 28-30; mostly clean and bright; despite flaws, overall about very good.
