Classic Car Auctions says: A Coventry Classic...The Standard Eight of 1953 was a fine response to the Morris Minor, Austin A30 and Anglia 100E. Trim levels were basic in the extreme, with absolutely no frills, but you did get independent front suspension, a four-speed gearbox, monocoque construction, and an impressive 40+ mpg from the new 803cc overhead valve engine. Although never particularly quick, they were rallied, and the works team entered only a few events, but attracted distinguished drivers such as Stuart Turner, Maurice Gatsonides, and Paddy Hopkirk, achieving high placings on the RAC and Tulip rallies. This 1955 Standard 8 has been with the current owner since 2001, and during that time has undergone a body and paint restoration and been fitted with a fully rebuilt, more powerful, 948cc Standard 10 engine and a new differential. The seating and door cards, we understand are original, however, the carpets and headlining have been replaced. This is a smart little “Eight” with a decent interior and would make a great entry level classic. The fact that they are eligible for various historic motor sport events has meant that sound cars are now being eagerly sought after.
