of the English, French and Italian Hands, after the Best Mode...Supervis'd and Publish'd by Thomas Read..., letterpress title and 'To the Reader' leaf, engraved dedication, title, preface and 30 plates (?only, ?lacking 2 plates), some with rather crude partial hand-colouring, 2 letterpress leaves and engraved dedication folding, contemporary ink inscription at head of letterpress title and a little frayed at fold, dedication torn and repaired, rather soiled and stained throughout, contemporary calf-backed marbled boards, a little worn, split to lower joint, oblong 4to, printed, and sold by J.Holland [&c.], 1709; sold not subject to return *** Originally published in 1705, in folio format with 2 plates to each sheet and a leaf of verse by Nahum Tate. In this copy the sheets have been cut and plates bound separately (as in the 1705 Macclesfield copy); the sheets are numbered in manuscript 1-37 including the letterpress title but there are no sheets numbered 32 or 33, and there is no poem. The 1709 edition is not listed by ESTC or COPAC.
