Beschreibung:

Nahmanides based his work on the best of the earlier Spanish tradition and incorporated into his text the writings of Samuel ha-Nagid (most of which are no longer extant), of Hananel ben Hushi'el, Isaac Alfasi, Isaac ibn Ghayyat, Judah al-Bargeloni, Joseph ibn Migash, and their contemporaries. In addition to his interest in the earlier Spanish scholars, Nahmanides adopted the mode of learning characteristic of the French tosafists, whose teachings were previously little known in Spain and whose method was not followed there. Consequently, he created a synthesis in the method of study of the Talmud in Spain which now became more concerned with comprehending the talmudic argumentation for its own sake (as did the French scholars) rather than with the simple explanation of the halakhah for practical purposes, as had been customary among the Spanish scholars. The text of this manuscript ends with Gittin 86b.
ProvenanceSolomon Halberstam (shelf no. 55)
Physical Description125 leaves on paper, 8 x 5 3/4 inches; 204 x 147 mm, written in brown ink in Sephardic semi-cursive script, paper watermarked with crowned arms of Aragon, a few diagrams in text, shoulder note on tabbed fore-edge of 62v; fol. 1 remargined in upper outside corner with loss of text in 5 lines, severe oxidation in fols. 10-16, 101, 107-108 causing burnholes, notes shaved on 81r and 94r, worming in gutter throughout and in top margin of fols. 81-93, staining throughout but very severe in fols. 111-125 causing text to fade or wash out.
