Twenty-four volumes in vari-colored cloth, top edge gilt, as published, including the boxed original plate with Nonesuch Dickensiana and two prospectuses. 10 x 6 inches (25.5 x 16 cm); various paginations, illustrated throughout with engraved title vignettes and plates. The boxed original plate in this set is of unusual interest; it is the wood-engraved pictorial wrapper by George Cattermole for Master Humphrey's Clock. The original lettering for the word "Clock" (cut from a separate block from the rest of the title) is included, along with the letter of authenticity signed by the Deputy Chairman of Chapman & Hall, and the accompanying proof. The spines of some volumes are (typically) faded, a few are a bit soiled. This is arguable the finest edition of Dickens ever published. It was edited by Arthur Waugh, Hugh Walpole, Walter Dexter and Thomas Hatton. C
