NOLIN, Jean Baptiste, the Younger (1686-1762). L'Amrique dresse sur les relations les plus recentes rectifies sur les dernieres observations . Paris: chez l'auteur, [n.d.]. Engraved wall map on four sheets joined, with outlining in one colour, enclosed by an elaborate border on 8 strips, 1250 x 1405mm. (Laid down on Japan paper, abrasion marks and small holes, grey spotting in some areas, one ink stain, clean tear at upper border.) AN APPARENTLY UNRECORDED ISSUE OF THIS WALL MAP OF AMERICA, dedicated to Louis XV. Issues in 1720 and 1740 are recorded in Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers . Phillips p. 109 only records a later issue of 1755. The features which make this a rare and important map include the depiction of the Pacific Northwest, and a remarkable notation at Matagorda Bay on the Texas coast which purports to locate the mouth of the Mississippi ('un Bouche du Mississipi'). The discovery and colonisation of the continent is illustrated in the thirty vignettes forming the decorative border.
