AN APPARENTLY UNRECORDED ISSUE OF THIS WALL MAP OF AMERICA, dedicated to Louis XV. Issues in 1720 and 1740 are recorded in Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers . Phillips p. 109 only records a later issue of 1755. The features which make this a rare and important map include the depiction of the Pacific Northwest, and a remarkable notation at Matagorda Bay on the Texas coast which purports to locate the mouth of the Mississippi ('un Bouche du Mississipi'). The discovery and colonisation of the continent is illustrated in the thirty vignettes forming the decorative border.
