Nine Tove (1906-1935) and Edvard (1901-1982) Kindt-Larsen for Thorald Madsens Dining Chairs and a Dining Table attributed to Finn Juhl Denmark, c. 1965, rosewood, teak, and leather, with two leaves, chairs all with brass manufacturer labels, table unmarked, table ht. 28 1/2, wd. 79, dp. 55 1/4, leaf wd. 21 3/4, chair ht. 32, wd. 19, dp. 20 1/2 in. Note: Tove and Edvard established a studio to work on furniture design, jewelry, accessories, textiles and architecture. Edvard was a trained architect, and Tove studied under Kaare Klint at the Department of Furniture Design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The couple played a significant role in the development of Danish furniture design through their involvement with the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibitions from the 1930s to the 1960s. Edvard Kindt-Larsen was head of the exhibitions from 1943-1966. Together they organized the exhibitions, and influenced Danish consumers to buy individual pieces of furniture instead of acquiring complete living spaces which had been the traditional approach.
