Small archive, ± consisting of ±letters by various Dutch artists, poets, scientists, journalists, all but one pen and ink (1x typescript), all signed and addressed to R.M. NIJHOFF (partly in orig. envelope). = R.M. Nijhoff was a passionate collector of autographs, books and art. He corresponded with various artists, poets and intellectuals of his time and organized a few exhibitions of his collections, i.a. in Deventer and Wijk bij Duurstede. The artists' letters contain a few pricelists or catalogues, the poets' letters contain autograph poetry and the letters by journalists or scientists are primarily written to present their latest books or articles to Nijhoff. The archive comprises letters by i.a. the artists O. DICKE (two autogr. letters, dated "Dordrecht, ' and " ', 1x on paper w. Dicke's letterhead and address); J. HAMEL (three autogr. letters, dated "Amsterdam, ' to "', all on paper w. letterhead of artgallery 'De ronde brug'); W. VAES-GUBBELS (autogr. letter and poem, dated "Breda, ) and J. PONSIOEN (two autogr. letters, dated "Tiel , ' and " , and a receipt of a painting bought by Nijhoff). The autogr. poems in the archive are i.a. by W. BRANDT (titled "Stroomversnelling", dated "Bussum, ); J.B. CHARLES (titled "de schede is de grote valsstrik", on paper w. letterhead of "Mr. Dr. W.H. Nagel"); MUUS JACOBSE (sonnet, dated "Oegstgeest, , on paper w. letterhead of "Dr. K. Heeroma") and PIERRE KEMP (letter dated "Maastricht, XII. and poem titled "Philosophie" (). The other letters are i.a. by J. van Mourik, H.A. Naber (mathematician and researcher in the field of history of science) and D.C. van Schaïk (engineer and explorer of the limestone caves at St. Pietersberg, Limburg). ADDED: a painting by G. HÖHLIG (Hilly landscape with trees in the background) (oil on panel, 5x, signed and " in lower right corner), a drawing by W. BAUER (Church interior) (watercolour, 3x, signed and "Weenen" in lower margin) and a fine portrait of R.M. Nijhoff by J.F.J.
