Consilia contra Judaeos foenerantes. –ASTESANUS DE AST (d. 1330). Canones poenitentiales. Venice: Franciscus Renner de Heilbronn, 1482. In a contemporary binding and with an illuminated initial. Alexander de Nevo’s attack on Jewish moneylenders began to be included with editions of Nicolaus de Ausmo’s digest of canon law starting in 1476. HC 2164*; BMC V 197; BSB-Ink N-79; IGI 6879; Goff N-74; ISTC in00074000. Chancery quarto and median octavo (176 x 121mm). 565 leaves (of 566, without initial blank). Illuminated initial with partial floral border, red and blue Lombard initials, yellow, red, and blue paragraph marks (some paint flaking and repair affecting interior of initial, occasional spotting). Contemporary stamped morocco with manuscript waste endpapers (lacking clasps). Provenance: some early marginalia – Giorgio di Veroli (1890-1952, Italian financier and collector who fled to New York City during WWII; his sale, Parke-Bernet, 28 February 1956, lot 607) – acquired there via Lucien Goldschmidt.
