Nicolas Robert (1614-1685) Plusieurs Especes de Fleurs dessinaeees et Graves d'Apres le Naturel [Paris]: 1676. 4 (264 x 195mm). Engraved throughout, title and 17 plates only (of 30, numbered 2-11, 13-16 and 24-25). (Title repaired with adhesive tape along inner margin). [ Bound with :] a duplicate plate 25 (with early hand-colouring); 5 plates from another work by Robert (1 with an early manuscript note, 2 cut-down and remargined); 2 plates signed 'V.F.'; 6 plates published by John Overton; and 30 plates (including 1 cut-down and remargined duplicate) from the reversed copy of Robert's Plusieurs Especes de Fleurs , Rome: Giovanni Giacomo de' Rossi, [1665 or later]. 18th-century French mottled sheep, spine gilt (worn, upper joint broken). A good selection of plates from 'one of the most outstanding flower painters of the 17th century' (Hunt). The first edition of the main work was first published with a Latin title Variae ac Multiformes Florum Species: Diverses Fleurs (Paris: F.Poilly, [c.1660?]). Cf.
