Newbery (F., publisher) Cries of London (The), as they are daily exhibited in the Streets with an Epigram in Verse adapted to each, to which is added a Description of the Metropolis in verse, woodcut frontispiece and 61 full-page illustrations, 6pp. advertisements at end, contemporary ink inscription "Betsey Brown Janr.1th 1778. Sent from London by Cousin John Surridge" to front pastedown, one or two small stains, C7 & 8 torn and slightly defective at lower margin, original "Dutch" floral boards, a little worn, lacking most of backstrip, [Osborne II p.629; Roscoe J86 (2)], 32mo, F.Newbery, 1775. ⁂ Rare; Roscoe lists an advertisement for the book dated 1771, but the 1775 edition seems to be the earliest known. Roscoe locates 4 copies, one of which is imperfect (Osborne). ESTC records 3 copies in North America but none in the UK.
