A clear precurser to the Bar Associations formed in the 19th century, the document is signed by Duane and other important early New York attornies such as William Livingston (signer of United States Constitution), William Smith Jr. (author of the 1756 History of the Province of New-York), John V. Cortlandt, Richard Morris Benjamin Kissam, and Whitehead Hicks (Mayor of New York City from 1766 to 1776). C The New York City Bar Association
